The Pinoy Dragon Warriors–Cobra Philippine Dragon Boat Federation

“The PDBF team are winning and setting world records with athletes of the finest character and well-respected by their competitors from across the globe. They have represented the Philippine nation in an outstanding fashion, in my opinion.”
Bob McNamara - US Dragon Boat Team’s Head Coach
On August 3-7, 2011, the 2-time World Camps Cobra Philippine Dragon Boat Federation aim to set new world records in Florida, USA for 10th IDBF World Championships.
The PDBF are slated to compete in the 10th IDBF World Championships from August 3-7 at Tampa, Florida, USA. Headed by Team Captain Usman Anterola, the 25 champion paddlers are a mix of Philippine Army, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guards personnel, and reinforced by the best civilian women paddlers.
Despite lack of funding and numerous setbacks, the PDBF have been garnering numerous accolades worldwide since 2003 when they were formally organized in order to give autonomy to various private dragon boat clubs in the country.
The PDBF is a founding member of the IDBF. Per IDBF and Sports Accord, PDBF is the only recognized governing body for dragon boat racing in the Philippines. The IDBF is the world governing authority for dragon boat racing as a sport.  The PDBF is also a Founding Member of the Asian Dragon Boat Federation (ADBF), South East Asian Traditional Boat Association (SEATBA).
The IDBF World Championship is held every 2 years. In 2007, the PDBF won the Gold for Men’s 200 meters in Sydney, Australia and set a then world record of 42.16 seconds.
In 2009, the PDBF successfully defended its world title and set a new world record of 40.02 seconds at the World Championships in Prague, Czech Republic. The Philippines doubled its gold medal haul as it also won the Mixed Division.
In the ADBF Championships, the PDBF won 2 Golds in Penang, Malaysia in 2008 and 1 Gold in Mianyang, China in 2004.
Early this year, the PDBF were officially invited by the IDBF Tampa Organizers to defend their title in the Premier Mens and Mixed competition classes. Pressed for funds, the chances were slim for the PDBF to fly abroad.
In support of the PDBF’s cause, Official Carrier, Philippine Airlines stepped up to make it possible for the dragon boat world champs to vie for their third consecutive World Titles.
Cobra Energy Drink, Official Partner of the Philippine Dragon Boat Federation (PDBF), together with Philippine Airlines, Official Carrier of the PDBF to the 10th International Dragon Boat World Championships, held a send-off press con luncheon at Capone’s A Venue to rally support for the back-to-back world champs.

SMS Reply-All service by SMS GupShup

I was lucky to attended SMS GupShup Bloggers’ Night at Toro Resto and Bar in One McKinley Place at BGC, Taguig City last night with some tech bloggers on the table.

GupShup or Chitchat text messaging service is like a group chat on instant messaging. This is convenient way to text or sms your group of friends, office mates, even your basketball team.

Even text messaging is legacy, it will rock you on this SMS Reply-All service, because it enables you to send a message to multiple users at 1 TIME!  1 message SENT SIMULTANEOUSLY to MORE RECIPIENT. Keep your friends in the loop. It’s like the CC and Reply-All features on email. All you got to do is REPLY and your message goes to everyone in the group, how cool is that!

DSC_0073India based SMS GupShup has partnered with three biggest mobile networks in the country: Globe Telecom, Smart Telecommunications, and Sun Cellular to introduce ‘Group Messaging’ for coordinating, collaborating, communicating with friends, workers, and family on SMS.

Referred to as “Reply All” for Globe & Smart subscribers and “Chatxt” for Sun Subscribers. This service allows users to coordinate, collaborate and communicate with up to 30 mobile numbers in a single group.
These users (group members) can reply to the SMS received that in turn goes to all members in the group. This makes ‘Reply-All’ or ‘Chatxt’ the latest and trendiest way to message within small and large groups. A parallel of this service on the web would be “reply all” and “cc” function of e-mail.
‘Chatxt’ & ‘Reply-All’ are conveniently priced at flat SMS cost of 1 peso per text with many other options for those who just can’t stop SMS’ing.
- For Globe and Smart users, a 20 pesos/day unlimited option can be activated by texting “UNLIDAY” to 2993.
- For Sun Cellular users, “Chatxt” is available complimentary for limited period. This can be activated by texting “Freeday” to 2993. They can also avail of the 30 group messages only for P5 by texting “BUY30” to 2993.

From football teams coordinating match schedules, student study groups finishing projects, a group of friends exchanging gossip to housewives discussing recipes Reply All / Chatxt has been a runaway success connecting people through basic SMS.
SMS GupShup has tied up with all the major telecom operators in India, Sri Lanka, Indonesia and Bahrain for the product before this launch in Philippines. The Company committed to collaborating with mobile networks in developing and introducing innovative features for SMS.

Pinoy_Blogfest 2.0 on August 5 2011

I want to witness and join to this event. I saw this at Pinoy Bloggers fanpage in Facebook and immidiately I sent and email to inqiury on how to get an invitation.

Pinoy_Blogfest 2.0, Gadgets Magazine‘s annual social media event.  Now on its second year, Pinoy_Blogfest 2.0 is scheduled to happen on 5 August 2011 at the TriNoma Activity Center in Quezon City.

In its first run in 2010, Pinoy_Blogfest 1.0 attempted to start the dialogue on ethical issues confronting social media, with the theme Opportunity & Responsibility.  Attended by some 80 bloggers, the conference addressed questions such as: “Should bloggers observe journalistic ethics?” and “Can bloggers make money from their web presence?”

Continuing the discourse on the role of social media in Philippine society, this year’s Pinoy_Blogfest 2.0 is themed Social Media as a Change Agent.

With the increasing ubiquity of Facebook, Twitter and other social media platforms, Filipinos have once again made the Philippines the world’s social networking capital.  Theoretically, therefore, everyone on Facebook or Twitter, and eventually the new Google+, has the potential to influence his “friends” or “followers” through his posts and status updates.  This democratizes social media and empowers each one with the opportunity to be a force for good.

Pinoy_Blogfest is open to the public, offering a program of social activities targeted at various audiences.   Interested participants may opt to attend any one or all of the public social activities, namely The New Workplace, Its a Digital Life, Healthy Living and Photography.

Interested bloggers are requested to send their name, blog URL, and contact details to for invites to the by-invitation-only evening program by July 31, Sunday.
